In 2008 I received an invitation to speak at the 2009 Commencement Ceremony of the Jesus College of Kathmandu, Nepal and at a Pastor’s Seminar to be held at the college during commencement week. I sought Brother T. F. Tenney’s advice regarding this open door and he suggested I contact Brother Bryan Nerren, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, about the meeting since he was familiar with the region and the ministers. Pastor Nerren has traveled to Nepal since 2001, ministering in the mountain villages of the Himalayas. During their recent civil war in 2006 God used Pastor Nerren to steer the church through a difficult transition from a Hindu based government to a secular based one. Both Brother Tenney and Brother Nerren were in agreement that this was a tremendous open door for the Apostolic message to gain a further stronghold in the nation of Nepal.
The team landed in Kathmandu, Nepal on May 14th, 2009 at 12:30 pm and began our first session at 4:00 pm! Thus began a marathon equal to any endured by Olympians. The seminar sessions began each day at 5:30 AM and ended at 6:00 PM. Our evenings were free but we were so exhausted (and jet lagged) by the time the days were over all we could do was crash in the hotel room.
Many of the attendees walked 3-7 days from their mountain villages to Pokhara in order to catch the bus that would take them to the seminar. Their efforts did not deter their seeking after God. It was wonderful to witness their marvelous hunger for God; a hunger powerful enough to overcome the physical duress of their travels.
During the seminar Pastor Jimmy Lumpkin preached on prayer. The amazing difference between preaching in Nepal and in America was immediately obvious. When you preach on prayer in Nepal, everyone responds by praying. What a novel idea! When I took the pulpit the Holy Ghost fell in the house; their cry was heard in the heavens and over 100 received the Holy Ghost that day.
Pastor Daniel Stroebel preached about God’s miraculous deliverance from Hurricane Katrina. Again, these people related to his story in large measure due to the devastation of civil war upon their country, and were greatly moved by the Holy Ghost. Another 50 were filled with the Spirit. After careful observation, Brother Lumpkin and I concluded that over 300 people received the Holy Ghost during the week.
First Pentecostal Church, your gifts and offerings helped these people travel by bus to this seminar. It was an awesome sight to behold, and knowing that we had a vital part in these peoples’ salvation, by our going and your giving, was a powerful blessing to my soul. Many of them had already been baptized in Jesus’ Name due to the verwhelming majority of mountain village pastors receiving the revelation of Jesus’ Name Baptism. Pastor Nerren discovered in his travels that the pastors and saints in the mountain villages who had only the Bible as their guide (and were not seminary trained in foreign countries) already baptized in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The commencement exercises for the Jesus College graduates was awesome. I was privileged to meet with and talk to the Communist Leaders of the country and was excited to meet the Youth President of the Communist Party for the nation of Nepal. Making friends with these important leaders is vital to our future possibility of building churches in the every city of the nation of Nepal.
Due to our tight schedule we had only one day to sightsee and we took a plane ride to see what is called by the local people, “The Top of the World,” better known to you as Mount Everest. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Although Nepal suffers a great deal of poverty, the hearts of the saints are joyful. Kathmandu sits in a valley just before you enter into the high mountain region of the Himalayas. It is a beautiful place with people whose hearts are turned toward God. It is apparent that the time for revival is now. Your generous offering of $75,767.05 allowed us to print over 1000 copies of The Bride’s Pearl, A Commentary on Ephesians (putting the truth of the Apostolic message in the hands of each pastor), and paid for travel, lodging and food for approximately 800 Nepalese who attended the seminar, and travel expenses for the team. Total expenses were $69,123.82, with a balance for future projects of $6,643.23. Thank you First Pentecostal for making this dream become reality. We sincerely appreciate your burden, and vision to reach the lost in every nation.
